Advancing the Manufacturing Workforce

The Employ Florida Banner Center for Advanced Manufacturing is one of several Banner Centers throughout the state, each representing a different industry sector. Since the Banner Center's start-up in August 2006, we have been working to provide curriculum, training, and certification resources for developing and sustaining Florida's manufacturing production workforce and contributing to the expansion of its diverse manufacturing industries.

The Banner Center represents a consortium of community and state colleges, workforce investment boards, regional manufacturers associations, economic development organizations, and manufacturing companies throughout Florida. Together, the Center has launched, with Workforce Florida funding, a new statewide industry-recognized, certification-based training and education initiative.

This initiative is built around promoting demand-driven industry certifications, such as the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council's (MSSC) "Certified Production Technician" (CPT) credential which addresses portable production competencies in the areas of: Manufacturing Production and Process; Safety; Maintenance Awareness; and Quality and Continuous Improvement. The Banner Center has designed training curricula to address these critical skills, along with curricula that align with MSSC’s Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) and American Society of Transportation and Logistics’ (AST&L) Global Logistics Associate (GLA), among other credentials.

The Banner Center has positioned itself as a key resource to provide a trained workforce for the expansion and sustainability of Florida’s manufacturing sector. It has focused on advancing Florida’s manufacturing production workforce knowledge and skills to an increased level of productivity and contributing to the expansion of the state’s manufacturing industries.

Now the Banner Center is pursuing a wide array of initiatives that will build upon prior achievements, furthering the establishment of a unified workforce preparation system that creates the training and educational programs, curriculum, educational articulation pathways, and industry certifications needed to deliver high-performance manufacturing workplace competencies.  Click here for a PDF of the Florida Advanced Manufacturing Talent Development Pathways.
